Chelsea’s first pre-season game in Japan against Kawasaki Frontale is only five days away and we continue our countdown to kick-off in Yokohama by looking back at another image from past visits to the country by the Blues.
Today’s photo was taken during the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup final and shows David Luiz shielding the ball from Corinthians striker Emerson at the International Stadium in Yokohama.
In our first-ever appearance in the competition, Chelsea missed out on silverware after going down 1-0 to the South American champions in the final. However, David Luiz did earn an individual accolade as the Brazilian was awarded the silver ball after being adjudged the second-best player in the tournament.
Chelsea will face J.League champions Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama on Friday 19 July and Barcelona in Saitama on Tuesday 23 July on our pre-season visit to Japan. For ticket information, please click here.
