Mount impresses in St Pat’s win

The Daily Mail is tipping Mason Mount for a bright future at Chelsea after the 20-year-old scored and put on an impressive display in our 4-0 pre-season win over St Patrick’s Athletic during the weekend.

Mount broke the deadlock after 15 minutes and was involved in much of the action during the first half in Dublin as he made a big case for his inclusion in Frank Lampard’s squad for the upcoming campaign.

‘Mount looked like a man who spots the glimmer of an opportunity and is determined to seize it,’ stated the paper in its assessment of the game.

‘He has the confidence of the manager – his loan spell at Derby worked out well in that respect – and was on set pieces and corners. And his delivery was excellent.

‘However, what impressed was his energy around the pitch and his incisive passing. If Lampard is playing a high press, Mount is his man.

‘His passing was equally good, a ninth minute through ball for Barkley between the lines the pick of a series of potential assists. At the very least he is playing himself into the starting line-up for the Japan tour.’

The Mail was also impressed by the performance of Scottish youngster Billy Gilmour.

‘Billy Gilmour looked assured and composed in a second half midfielder. He's small – 5'7' – but feisty and not easily intimated,’ said the paper of the 18-year-old.‘He also played the second half against Bohemians on Wednesday. Lampard kept him here rather than send him home for the Under-23 match on Saturday, so he's made an impression.’

Swansea looking to sign Palmer on loan?

Kasey Palmer played in both of Chelsea’s pre-season matches in Ireland but the 22-year-old is being linked with a loan move to Swansea City for the forthcoming season, Sky Sports reports.

According to the broadcasters, the Welsh club are ‘considering tabling a season-long loan offer to Chelsea’ for the attacking midfielder.

A member of our UEFA Youth League-winning squads in 2015 and 2016, Palmer spent last season on loan at Blackburn and Bristol City, making a combined 34 appearances for both sides.

He has also played on loan at Huddersfield Town and Derby County in recent seasons.

PSG interested in Bakayoko

According to Goal.com, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in bringing Tiemoue Bakayoko back to Ligue 1 for the 2019/20 season.

After spending last season on loan at AC Milan, the French midfielder is currently in pre-season training with Chelsea but there appears to be genuine interest in the 24-year-old from his hometown club.

‘Paris Saint-Germain are weighing up a year-long loan move with a possible purchase option for Tiemoue Bakayoko,’ states the report.

‘Having been initially sent out under Maurizio Sarri, it is not known whether Bakayoko figures in new manager Frank Lampard's plans, but he has now been linked with a return to his home country with the Ligue 1 champions, at least on an interim basis, with sources confirming to Goal that PSG are interested in landing him on a year-long deal.’
