With the Blues set to use a white away kit once again this season, it gives us an opportunity to look back at some of our best moments in that colour.

March 1986 - Manchester City

The Full Members’ Cup only lasted for seven seasons but it gave the club a day to remember in the 1985/86 final at Wembley when we beat Manchester City 5-4 in front of a crowd of over 67,000.

Wearing white, the Blues fell behind early on but a hat-trick by David Speedie and two goals by Colin Lee put us 5-1 up before City scored three goals in the last six minutes to cut the deficit in an entertaining end to the match.

August 2003 - Liverpool

Chelsea don’t often wear a change kit against Liverpool but for our first Premier League match under the ownership of Roman Abramovich, the Blues opted to use white for the visit to Anfield on the opening day of the 2003/04 season.

It proved an inspired decision as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink fired home the winner three minutes from time in a 2-1 victory which was only our second league win at Liverpool’s home ground for 68 years.

December 2006 - Everton

Chelsea’s Premier League visit to Goodison Park on the weekend before Christmas in 2006 was not going well as the Toffees led 2-1 with nine minutes left before magnificent long-range efforts from a pair of club legends turned things around.

First, Frank Lampard equalised with a brilliant shot from 20 metres which swerved past Tim Howard into the top right corner, and then three minutes from time, Didier Drogba chested down the ball with his back to goal before swivelling and firing a 30-metre half-volley into the back of the net.

March 2008 - West Ham

Our white third kit was only worn twice in the 2007/08 season but it featured in a memorable 4-0 demolition of West Ham United when the Blues got three goals in a glorious five-minute spell in the first half.

A Lampard penalty and fine finishes by Joe Cole and Michael Ballack put us firmly in control, and although Lampard was harshly sent off before half-time (a red card subsequently rescinded on appeal), Ashley Cole struck in the second half to seal our biggest ever win at the Boleyn Ground.

March 2010 – Portsmouth

Chelsea wore white for a big away win against Portsmouth at Fratton Park which provided a huge tonic in our pursuit of the Premier League and FA Cup in the 2009/10 season.

Drogba capitalised on an error by Pompey goalkeeper David James to give us a first-half lead and the Blues added four goals after the interval with Drogba netting his second and Florent Malouda also scoring twice before Lampard made it 5-0 in stoppage time. Chelsea went on to win nine of our last 10 games to secure the Double for the first time in club history.

April 2012 – Barcelona

While it was only worn in three games in the 2011/12 season, our white third kit is well remembered for the events at the Camp Nou on 24 April 2012 when we met Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Down to 10 men, the Blues got a crucial away goal from Ramires in first-half stoppage time to edge ahead in the tie and then survived a second-half onslaught from the hosts before Fernando Torres broke clear right at the end to seal a memorable triumph.

April 2013 – Basel

One year and a day after our famous game in Barcelona, Chelsea played another European semi-final when we travelled to Switzerland to meet Basel in the last four of the Europa League.

A late penalty for the hosts cancelled out Victor Moses’ opening goal but the white-clad Blues still managed to secure a crucial away victory when David Luiz’s low free-kick found the bottom corner deep into stoppage time. A 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge a week later sealed out passage to the final.
