Our newest addition Guro Reiten, who has recently returned from the Women’s World Cup with Norway, spoke to us on her move to Chelsea…

Before the World Cup, the Blues announced the 24-year-old Norwegian international would be joining us ahead of the 2019/20 Barclays Women’s Super League season from LSK Kvinner on a three-year contract. The left-footed player is capable of playing as a winger, no.10 or striker. She has finished as the top goal scorer in the Toppserien – Norway’s equivalent to the WSL – for the past three seasons and is also the league’s Player of the Year.Reiten is excited about her new challenge in England and believes the move will improve her game, as she explains in the interview below…

Welcome to Chelsea! How does it feel to be a Chelsea player officially?‘It feels amazing. I’ve just been playing in the World Cup so when that ended I needed to have a holiday and a break. But now I’m here, I’m ready, and it’s going to be a great adventure that I'm really excited about.’You’ve always played your football in Norway, why Chelsea and why now?‘I felt like I needed to try something new, I needed new challenges because I have played in the Norwegian league for a long time. I know everyone in that league, so I wanted to do something different and new.‘Chelsea is one of the best clubs in Europe, and when they said they wanted me, I couldn’t say no. I think this is the next step for me to develop as a football player.’You are a very versatile player; you can play in many different positions, so which is your favourite?‘No.10 is my favourite position to play. I played it at my last club, so I know it very well. But I play as a winger in my national team, so I can be used where ever and I will do the best I can.’

What can Chelsea fans expect from you?‘I like to attack, I like to get assists and score goals of course. I will do my best, it’s a great team, but it’s going to be tough. I have a lot of things I need to adapt in terms of how Chelsea want to play, but I’m going to have fun, and I love winning.’

What do you hope to achieve over the season?

‘As a club, we want to win the league again and we want to be back in the Champions League. The pressure comes with playing for a big club like Chelsea, so that’s the main goal every season, I guess.

‘For me personally, I want to improve myself as a player, taking new steps, and to be good for the team.’

So, your first game is at Stamford Bridge, how exciting is that?

‘I’m so excited, I heard that it was sold out. After a tournament like the World Cup, which was such a big success, hopefully we can take that momentum with us throughout the season and have people come and watch us regularly because that’s what we want.

‘After the World Cup, I have been getting such positive feedback, so I hope people will continue to watch us play.’

The first opportunity to see the World Cup star in action could come in our opening game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on 8 September.Tickets for this game were made free of charge and are currently sold out.
