Five Chelsea players are among an 80-man shortlist for the prestigious Golden Boy award, which is given to the most promising young talent in Europe.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ethan Ampadu, Mason Mount, Marc Guehi and Dujon Sterling are all listed by Italian sports publication Tuttosport, which offers the prize to the most promising footballer under the age of 21 who plays for a European club.The Blues quintet are on a list of 80 which comprises some of the most exciting young talent on the continent, including Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, new Atletico Madrid signing Joao Felix and last year’s winner Matthijs de Ligt, who is set to join Juventus from Ajax.Hudson-Odoi and Ampadu are already full internationals and have been regulars in the Chelsea squad, while Mount will be part of Frank Lampard’s squad this season having signed a five-year contract after impressing in loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County.

Guehi captained England Under-17s to World Cup victory in India in 2018, with Sterling spending last season on loan at Coventry City in League One. Both were part of our pre-season trip to Ireland last week.

The Golden Boy award has been presented annually since 2003 and has been won in the past by Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling.While a serving Chelsea player has yet to win the award, former Blues Cesc Fabregas and Alexandre Pato received the honour while playing for other clubs earlier in their careers.
