The Chelsea travelling party has landed safely in Istanbul ahead of Wednesday night’s meeting with Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Frank Lampard and his 23-man squad touched down just after 2am local time on Tuesday morning following a three-hour flight from London. Istanbul is two hours ahead of the UK.
The group will take part in an open training session at the Besiktas Park Stadium at 5.15pm local time on Tuesday, shortly after Lampard and two of his players have held a press conference in the Turkish capital.
What is the Super Cup?
European football’s annual curtain-raiser takes place between the previous season’s Europa League and Champions League winners. Liverpool are involved courtesy of their victory over Tottenham in Madrid, while the Blues head to Turkey courtesy of our comprehensive defeat of Arsenal in Baku.
When does the game take place?
The final is on Wednesday 14 August, kick-off 10pm local time (8pm in the UK).
Where is the final this year?
Besiktas hosts the Super Cup final in the city of Istanbul, which encompasses both Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. The 41,000-capacity stadium was officially opened in April 2016.
