Team news

Antonio Rudiger and Michy Batshuayi are set to feature in west London. The German defender has not featured in a Chelsea shirt since limping off against Manchester United in late April. Having worked hard towards regaining his fitness, Rudiger was named on the bench in the Super Cup and told Chelsea TV after our draw with Leicester yesterday that he would be featuring in PL2 tonight.

‘I know I need to be patient,’ said the 26-year-old.

‘There is no need to rush anything because we have a long season to go. I am happy because I am going to have some minutes with the Under-23s against Liverpool. I’m very pleased with that.’

Batshuayi is also expected to start up front to get some minutes, while the likes of Billy Gilmour, Marc Guehi, Tino Anjorin and Ian Maatsen should start.

In the build-up to the game, Guehi told this website he believed the team have adapted well to take two wins from two wins at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

‘It’s been a good start to the season,’ Guehi said ‘For me, it was a privilege to travel with the first team and have a few days with them in Dublin, with the opportunity to play in a game as well. I was really grateful for that.

‘We’ve managed to get two wins in two very different but tough games and I think the team has adapted well. It helps us build that momentum early on and training has helped with that as well because it’s been of a really high level.

'Everyone has put a lot of hard work in and you can see that in the games. We’ve shown a bit more consistency and we hope to keep this run going.’
