Cole and Redknapp feel Blues just need time

Sky Sports pundits Ashley Cole and Jamie Redknapp believe Frank Lampard only needs time to get things sorted out at Chelsea after watching our 1-1 draw with Leicester on Sunday.

Despite making a bright start against the Foxes, the Blues were pegged back by the visitors as we missed out on a victory in Lampard’s first game as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

However, Cole insisted there was no need for Chelsea fans to worry after seeing us pick up only a single point from our first two games of the campaign.

‘Chelsea's start [against Leicester] was very good. From minute one, they had their game plan to press, to make runs in behind and it worked. Then after that, it was a little bit disappointing,’ said Cole.

‘We spoke a lot about where the goals are going to come so when you take a 1-0 lead, you need to try and get another one because you don't feel like you're going to get enough chances.

‘In this game, they had enough chances but they didn't finish them. That would be the main concern for Frank - are they going to be good enough to take their chances and score more than one per game?

‘Chelsea have got the players and everyone expects them to be in the top four or six, but the Premier League has changed. The manager needs time, the players need time and I don't think everyone should panic yet.’

Meanwhile, Redknapp felt the expectations placed on the Blues this season should be tempered following the departure of Eden Hazard and the transfer ban which prevents us from signing new players.

‘Of course, Lampard has to be treated differently because Chelsea have lost their superstar. Hazard was the one player that would produce a piece of magic to make a goal or score a goal,’ he said.

‘And if you think Lampard should finish in the top four and win a cup, you're deluded. It's completely wrong to have that expectation.

‘This manager needs time, he's going to give young players an opportunity and if he finishes in the top four, that's an incredible achievement with this team.’

Mount named in Team of the Weekend

Mason Mount has been named in TalkSport’s Team of the Weekend after his excellent goalscoring display against Leicester.

Making his first senior appearance for the Blues at Stamford Bridge, the 20-year-old caught the eye with a fine performance as an attacking midfielder which was highlighted by his scoring of the game’s opening goal after seven minutes

‘Dangerous throughout against Leicester, his pressing was exemplary and resulted in his goal as he robbed Wilfred Ndidi of possession on the edge of the penalty area,’ said the broadcasters of Mount’s performance.

’He could have had a couple more goals such were the positions he was moving into and was Chelsea’s stand out man.’

Pulisic’s youth coach delighted he chose Chelsea

A youth coach of Christian Pulisic has told the Telegraph* how he helped steer the talented American towards joining Chelsea.

Robin Walker was a youth coach at Brackley Town when Pulisic had a spell with the non-league side at the age of seven and he has remained close to the winger, who invited him to Germany before he concluded a move to Chelsea.

‘I’m a Chelsea fan, I grew up in London supporting them, When I was in Dortmund last year, I told him that he had to come,” said Walker.

‘I was trying to sell the city. His agent agreed, saying: “When you make these decisions, it’s all about investment and property.”

‘I was delighted that he did sign.’
