I had to move him out to the left just before the game because of the Pedro injury (the Spaniard suffered a hamstring problem in the warm-up at Carrow Road) but he took it on board, he is intelligent and he can do different roles. I am delighted for the two of them.‘You can see the reaction of the fans. These are two young men who are desperate to play for this club. They have to earn it and I am delighted for them both.‘I supported Tammy over the online abuse. I did it out loud and I did it behind the scenes. I supported him on that as much as I can and in terms of playing, hopefully he will see my belief in him from the fact he is playing and hopefully from the fact I want to do extra shooting with him daily, every type of finishing and the first one today was top drawer. That comes from work on the training ground.

‘I have seen him sky a few of those in training but you keep going and all of a sudden you catch one and you score. That is why him and Mason and others, like Fikayo Tomori who I don’t want to forget because I feel for him at the moment because he is playing at a level where he could be playing in this team regularly. That is why they are good for us because they bring that enthusiasm to training.’

Lampard said he had spoken to Mount yesterday and asked him if he feels like a Chelsea player yet...

‘It is important he feels like a big player,’ added the boss, ‘because we were a young side today and players like Mason and Tammy for sure, but also Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, players that are a still young, they have to grow up very quickly with personality and be leaders on the pitch.‘When I asked Mason that question he just sort of smiled. He is a confident boy in a really nice way, he has a lot of humility and a work ethic so he smiled and we had a laugh about it but I did not really get a clear answer.‘He should feel like it if he plays like he is at the moment. That does not mean it is the end of the story, he needs to work and get even better daily.‘It is good for our Academy because people have looked at that and asked a lot of questions. I know the work that goes on there with people like Neil Bath who runs it and will be very happy this afternoon and this evening because he has seen two great young lads with a real desire to play for this club. Fans like to see players who really feel the club.'

‘There were good players out there who have come from all over the world. Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic ran the game in midfield today.

‘I am satisfied but relieved because we should have had the game tied up earlier because we had good chances and we controlled big parts of it. I am satisfied with the three points because Norwich is a tough place to come to, they are a very good side and I knew that already, they will take a lot of points off teams both home and away. I am very pleased with the performance.

‘I am very happy with the result because we are Chelsea, we want to win games. I want to stay in contention and I don’t want a slow start. We had a tough start and I have been happy with a lot of the performances but you can’t shout that too loudly if you are not winning games. I saw a really good belief in the players in the way they played today.’
