Billy Gilmour has capped an incredible few weeks, in which he has made his senior debut for Chelsea and signed a new four-year contract, by collecting the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.

The teenage midfielder featured in all but one PL2 game for our development squad last month and scored a crucial penalty away at Manchester City as we fought back from 2-0 down to salvage a point and maintain an unbeaten start to the season.

Andy Myers’s side are currently top of the early league standings and host Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge tonight. The game can be watched live on this website or the 5th Stand app, kick-off 7pm, while tickets can be purchased up until kick-off at the stadium.

It was announced on Thursday that Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James would both play some part in the game.

Gilmour will be hoping to recover from a knock sustained on international duty to feature as well and, after picking up his PL2 award at Cobham this week, the 18-year-old reflected on the achievement and a whirlwind few weeks.

‘I’m very proud of myself,’ he admitted. ‘I was away with Scotland Under-21s when I saw on Twitter that I’d been nominated and then to come back to find out I’d won the award made me very happy.

‘It’s been a good couple of weeks for me personally! Now we have to keep the standards up and try to get the three points against Brighton. Playing at the Bridge is always a great experience for the boys and the changing room is buzzing so we’re really looking forward to the game.’
