The Norway international was Emma Hayes’ only signing ahead of the 2019/20 Women’s Super League season and for the 25-year-old, who has always played her domestic football in her native country, playing in front of a huge crowd at Stamford Bridge was somewhat nerve-wracking.

‘It was my first game for Chelsea so of course I was very nervous, it’s been a long time since I was that nervous actually,’ she recalled.

‘But it was so fun playing in front of so many fans. When Beth scored, that was incredible, you could see how amazing it was on everyone’s faces. The moment will not be forgotten.’

Reiten won the Toppserien – Norway’s equivalent to the WSL – golden boot in 2017 and 2018 and went close to opening her Chelsea account in the second half when her headed effort bounced off the post.

‘I’m going to give it time, I think I need time to adapt to everything and everyone,’ she said. ‘I am a team-player so I need to know the players that I’m playing with, how I can make them good and how they can make me good because I’ve just been here two months and in that time away with the national team.

‘I’ve not had much time, but if we give it a bit of time I think I’m going to improve as a player here at Chelsea.

‘I should have scored a couple of goals, two or three maybe, especially my header that hit the post. Sometimes I can beat myself up with my performances but right now everything is so new so it’s important for me to think positive and I know it’s going to get better so it’s okay.’

Prior to her move the left-footed player had been competing in the Toppserien from the age of 16, so playing against Tottenham Hotspur was a new experience to her and one that she welcomed.

‘I’ve never played against anyone in this league and I am used to knowing everything about everyone and now I don’t have a clue. But I kind of like it, it’s a challenge and it just makes me focus on myself and our team.

‘It feels like a while since I played in the Toppserien because of the World Cup, but I think it’s more physical and tough, it is a higher speed and I play in a team that has world-class players, so the quality is higher.’

Hayes’ side could have quite easily won our opening match by more than one goal with a handful of chances being missed. However, Reiten insists that the team are fully focused and determined to keep winning, with the next test being Brighton and Hove Albion today [Sunday].

‘It was the first game of the season, so it doesn’t matter who we met because it was going to be a tough game because everyone was so excited to get started.

‘It’s very important to take the win into the Brighton game. I have heard everyone speak about how you don’t win the league in September, but you can lose it because of last year.

‘We are so focused on every game because we know we want to be at the top so we have to win. We won the first game, we had a great start and now we just have to continue building.’

The Blues' next home game will be at Kingsmeadow on Sunday 22 September against West Ham United and for Reiten this be the first game at our KT1 home.

‘I have never been to Kingsmeadow, I am excited for this one,’ she said.

‘I love playing games, so I just want to play games. Of course Stamford Bridge was amazing and I think everyone really enjoyed it. We would love to play there every week but we know that’s not the norm.

‘We play because we love to play and we really want to entertain the crowd so hopefully there will be a lot of fans supporting us at Kingsmeadow this season.’
