We have the highlights of the latest action for our loan players, including debuts for some at new clubs…
Kurt Zouma helped Everton return to winning ways in the Premier League, scoring the opening goal and playing a key role as they kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Bournemouth. Zouma powerfully headed home his first goal for the Toffees, who had lost four of their last five league fixtures, and it was the first time he had found the back of the net since November 2017 when he was on target for Stoke against Brighton.
In the Championship, Kasey Palmer started life as a Bristol City player in ideal fashion when he netted the winner for the Robins five minutes after coming off the bench in a 2-1 win over Bolton. The attacker has moved on loan to Ashton Gate for the remainder of the season after spending the first half of the campaign with Blackburn and helped his in-form new side extend their unbeaten run to nine matches. Tomas Kalas started and Jay Dasilva came on for Lee Johnson’s team. Another player to have started a fresh loan spell, Lewis Baker, came on as a substitute to make his bow for Reading who beat nine-man Nottingham Forest 2-0.
Todd Kane helped Hull keep a clean sheet, playing at right-back in their 3-0 win over a Sheffield Wednesday side containing Michael Hector. Wigan beat Aston Villa by the same scoreline as Reece James faced Tammy Abraham and was part of a solid rearguard action for the Latics.
Trevoh Chalobah helped Ipswich record a valuable 1-0 win over Rotherham to boost their hopes of survival. At the other end of the table, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori could not stop Derby from falling to a 2-0 defeat against Leeds on Friday night.
In League One, Dujon Sterling played for Coventry who drew 1-1 with AFC Wimbledon. After a tough night in goal for Burton during their 9-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City, there was more disappointment for Bradley Collins on Saturday. The goalkeeper was once again between the sticks as Nigel Clough’s men conceded a last-ditch goal in a 3-2 loss against Gillingham.
Josh Grant has joined goalie Nathan Baxter at League Two Yeovil and he slotted seamlessly into the Glovers’ defence, helping them beat Mansfield 1-0. Jacob Maddox started for Cheltenham who were beaten 3-1 by Tranmere. Jared Thompson made his debut in goal for Warrenpoint Town who were beaten 4-0 by leaders Linfield Town in the Northern Irish top flight.
On the continent, it was Coppa Italia weekend and Tiemoue Bakayoko played for AC Milan who beat Sampdoria 2-0 after extra-time to reach the quarter-finals. There was a victory in the French second division for Metz, who had Victorien Angban in their starting line-up. In La Liga, Kenneth Omeruo was in action for Leganes who beat Huesca 1-0. Jhoao Rodriguez came on for Tenerife in a 1-0 defeat against Real Oviedo in the Spanish second tier.
