Callum Hudson-Odoi has spoken of his pride after he marked his first start in the FA Cup with a fantastic display in which he created both of Chelsea’s goals in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest...
The winger provided two superb crosses for Alvaro Morata to convert as we overcame the Championship side.
‘I feel really proud to get an opportunity to play and just to help the team get the win we deserved,’ said the 18-year-old. ‘I think we played really well and our mentality was strong. Alvaro did really well getting his goals and we all worked hard as a team. We deserved the win.’
After a goalless first half where we went close on several occasions, Hudson-Odoi says the players were determined to stick to our game plan after the interval, with the tactics paying dividends four minutes after the restart when he teed up Morata for the opener.
‘That’s the only way,’ he insists. ‘If we don’t score, we keep going again and keep pushing until we do get the goal. I think the way we played today, we showed the desire to keep pushing and pushing.
‘We know that if we keep making chances the goal will come so we’ve just got to patient sometimes, keep going and, luckily it came together today.’
In his first FA Cup start and first full 90 minutes in senior domestic football, Hudson-Odoi became the first teenager to provide two assists in a Chelsea match since Scott Sinclair 11 years ago.
‘I’m delighted to hear that and hopefully today showed why we are doing well,’ he said. ‘We are working very hard in training every day and I’m proud to make a little bit of history. But it’s not just about myself, it’s about the team – we all did well so it’s congratulations to the team for the victory.’
