Chelsea Foundation and Nike team up to promote awareness of Black History Month

Chelsea FC support Black History Month

The Chelsea Foundation and Nike have joined forces to raise awareness for equality and diversity in local schools as part of UK Black History Month 2019.

Black History Month has been marked in the UK for more than 30 years and takes place in October, celebrating the achievements and contributions of the black community over the years.

As part of Chelsea’s Building Bridges campaign Foundation staff will visit 50 primary schools in the month of October to deliver a range of equality and diversity activities.

With the support of Nike, the activity will centre around students creating and submitting poems to the Foundation on the subject of equality and diversity with the top 10 entries invited to Stamford Bridge to perform their poems to a panel of judges.

To assist with the process players from our men’s, women’s and Academy sides, along with men’s manager Frank Lampard recorded their own poem to help motivate and inspire the pupils.

Black History Month is an important time in the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to equality and diversity with a range of activities in local schools to celebrate and recognise the achievements of male and female black role models, who include Chelsea players past and present.
