Following our 7-1 victory over Grimsby Town in the previous round, the Blues were drawn to play the Old Trafford outfit in this competition for the first time since 2012 when we won a thriller at the Bridge, 5-4 after extra-time at the same stage of the competition. David Luiz with a penalty, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard from the penalty spot, Daniel Sturridge and Ramires were our scorers that night. We had previously beaten Man United in a two-legged League Cup semi-final when Frank Lampard was among the goalscorers in the second leg at Old Trafford on the way to the team lifting the trophy in 2005. The first leg at Stamford Bridge ended 0-0. Damien Duff was the other scorer the a 2-1 second leg win away.Prior to those successes we suffered two defeats to the Red Devils in the League Cup, in 2002 and much earlier 1971. Both of those matches were away from home.
