England Under-21 call-ups for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James have been named in Aidy Boothroyd’s upcoming England Under-21 squad.

The duo will join up with the group for a friendly against Slovenia in Maribor on Friday 11 October, before returing to the UK to take on Austria in a European Championship qualifier at Stadium MK on the following Tuesday.

Hudson-Odoi has yet to feature for the Under-21s despite making his senior debut earlier in the year. He was originally called up for Boothroyd's squad in March but injuries opened the door for promotion to the seniors and he made his bow against Czech Republic at Wembley. The winger has recently returned from an Achilles tendon injury sustained at the end of last season.

James has also earned a maiden call-up at Under-21 level having recovered from an ankle injury picked up on England Under-20 duty at the Toulon Tournament in June this year. Both players marked their return in a 7-1 Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town, with James claiming two assists and a stunning goal for James, while Hudson-Odoi wrapped up the scoring a minute before time.

Guehi is another recent senior team debutant, playing the duration of Chelsea's win over Grimsby, while Chalobah is currently on loan at Huddersfield Town.

England have won their opening two qualifiers for the 2021 Euros. Their meeting with Austria in Milton Keynes will be screened live on BT Sport.

Tariq Lamptey has earned his second call-up to the England Under-20 squad and is again joined by Conor Gallagher who is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic. The young Lions have a trip to Parma to take on Italy before they return home and play Czech Republic in the upcoming international break.
