Gallagher tipped for success

The Daily Mail believes Conor Gallagher will be the next player to successfully emerge from the Academy after the Chelsea loanee scored for Championship side Charlton Athletic in their 2-2 draw at Fulham on Saturday.

Named the club’s Academy Player of the Year last season, Gallagher impressed at Craven Cottage as he opened the scoring for the Addicks with his fourth goal of the season.

‘Gallagher was everywhere, recovering the ball and getting to any 50-50 opportunities,’ wrote the Mail.

‘At Craven Cottage, he looked like a player ready to make an impression in another part of west London in the coming years.’

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer also rates the teenager highly.

‘For a 19-year-old kid who has never played men's football, he's surprised everyone I think,’ said the former Leeds and West Ham midfielder to the paper.

'He's surprising Chelsea as well. They didn't know how far he could go so soon. (Claude) Makelele came in on Thursday to speak to us and talk about the loan and ask how Conor is and give their thoughts and everything. He's going to be one to watch.'

Redknapp lauds Mount as ‘special talent’

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has hailed Mason Mount as a ‘special talent’ after he watched the young midfielder put in another strong display in Chelsea’s 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday.

The 20-year-old continued his fine start with the Blues by scoring his fourth goal of the season and Redknapp was glowing in his praise after watching his 24th-minute strike again.

‘Mason Mount - the second goal is all about him,’ said the former England midfielder, as reported by The Sport Review website.

‘He so often starts the press for this Chelsea side. The first touch is exceptional as is the second one, which sits the goalkeeper down, and it’s a lovely finish.

‘So often we see players with no desire to go and chase a lost cause. He’s really brave, wins the header and is thinking about how he can get the next pass.

‘It’s brilliant and it just shows how important this guy is for them right now. He’s a special talent.’

I have many years left in me: Cahill

Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is delighted with his form and fitness after he skippered Crystal Palace to a 2-1 win at West Ham United on Saturday which sent the Eagles into the international break in sixth place, the Daily Mail reports.

Cahill, who turns 34 in December, appeared in only two league games for the Blues last season but he has found a new lease of life at Selhurst Park, starting in their last six matches as Palace have taken 13 of a possible 18 points.

He also captained the team at the London Stadium in the absence of the suspended Luka Milivojevic as they came from behind to beat the Hammers.

‘It was a proud moment,' said Cahill of wearing the armband for the Eagles. 'It was a fantastic result against a team who is doing well.

'I am in good form and good shape and I have many years left in me. I did not play for a few months but looked after myself and came back in good condition. The most important thing is that the team is doing well.'
