Guehi on the influence of Terry

Young Chelsea defender Marc Guehi has cited the influence of John Terry in his development as one of the club’s bright prospects, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the report, Guehi picked Terry’s brains while moving through the Academy and has taken in plenty of advice from the Blues legend.

‘John was a great leader, a great defender and someone I definitely look up to,’ said the England Under-21 international.

‘I have spoken with him and he trained with us a few times. He told us to always be focused on what you do, communicating at all times and making sure you’re concentrated.

‘But also that you’re having fun, enjoy what you do. He was underrated when it came to playing out with both feet.’

Guehi made his senior debut for the Blues in the Carabao Cup win against Grimsby last month and is hoping to emulate our other Academy products who have become regulars in the senior team under Frank Lampard.

‘Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham... they’re role models for me,’ he said. ‘They’re young players doing really well and that’s an incentive to know that if you keep working hard, there are opportunities.

‘I just need to keep working hard and if I’m called upon, I need to make sure I’m ready.’

Barkley responds in style to Keane criticism

According to the Express, Ross Barkley delivered the perfect response to some biting criticism from Roy Keane with his two-goal performance in England’s 6-0 win at Bulgaria on Monday.

Barkley was named in the Three Lions’ starting line-up by Gareth Southgate but speaking on ITV in the build-up to the game, Keane was scathing in his assessment of the Chelsea midfielder.

Asked what he thought Barkley’s best position was, Keane responded: ‘Probably on the bench, particularly in international football.

‘He’s not impressed me too much over the last year or two that I’ve seen him playing, so I think he’s lucky to get back into the team,” added the former Manchester United midfielder.

‘There’s talent there but I just don’t think he shows it enough.

‘For an attacking midfielder I still don’t think he gets enough goals, gets enough assists. Yeah [he is lucky to be in the team], absolutely.’

Keane’s words rang hollow, however, after a fine performance by Barkley in Sofia.

The 25-year-old set up England’s opening goal for Marcus Rashford before finding the net twice to put the visitors three goals up after 32 minutes in a match they went on to win 6-0.

Hazard ranks high on list of top Premier League stars

Eden Hazard has been ranked fourth on a list compiled by the Daily Mirror of the 50 greatest Premier League players of the past 10 years, with a number of other Chelsea players also making the list.

With Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany locking down the top-three, Hazard was the highest placed non-Manchester City player on the list.

‘At his best it was almost impossible to stop the Belgian during his seven years in the Premier League, which he won twice as he made the PFA Team of the Year four times,’ said the paper of the 28-year-old, who left the Blues in the summer after a successful seven seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Of Chelsea’s current players, N’Golo Kante was the highest ranked at 12th while Olivier Giroud was 37th and Cesar Azpilicueta was 46th.

A quartet of Chelsea legends also made the list with John Terry at 13th, Petr Cech at 17th, Frank Lampard at 27th and Didier Drogba at 43rd.

Other notable former Blues to be listed include Diego Costa (22), Cesc Fabregas (25), Juan Mata (38) and Thibaut Courtois (42).
