Our legendary former defender and current Academy coach reveals his recommendations on what to watch on Netflix, and there's a freaky theme quite apt for this time of year...

After calling time on a truly remarkable career at the very top of his game, Blues legend Ashley Cole has certainly earned some downtime and, in between coaching our Under-15s, the former England defender enjoys relaxing with a spot of TV. We asked Ash what he’s watching right now…

Stranger Things (series)

‘Milly Bobby Brown is brilliant in this, and at such a young age.’

Inspired by a whole subset of 80s films, most notably the Goonies, you can’t not love a ragtag group of kids trying to save the day. Four nerdy high school boys have their lives quite literally turned upside down when one of them goes missing, and a girl with a shaved head and magical powers appears from the woods (Milly Bobby Brown). Hugely thrilling and at times a little freaky, you won’t be looking at the Christmas lights in the same way once you’ve completed season one…

Breaking Bad (series)

‘The whole atmosphere is incredible, and the two actors play their roles extremely well.’

When chemistry teacher Walter White learns he has terminal cancer, he knows it’s likely to ruin his family financially (he has a pregnant wife and son with cerebral palsy) and so he desperately tries to make as much money as he can by turning an old RV van into a meth lab, as you do. From teaching teenagers the periodic table to making and selling crystal meth – what could go wrong? It’s this transition which provides all the troubles, trials, twists and turns you can expect from a highly-rated crime drama.

Riverdale (series)

‘Basically, my missus got me into it!’

This American teen drama follows Archie Andrews in the small town of Riverdale, where he becomes entangled in the dark mysteries hidden behind its seemingly perfect image - all while navigating the troubled waters of romance, school and family.
