In the next of a new-style interview where we ask players to make selections based on their past, their recent choices and what crops up time and time again, Mason Mount tells us about summer holiday destinations, his sweet tooth and passing his driving test in his nan’s car.

First: What was the first football kit you ever wore?

It must have been a Portsmouth kit – my dad probably got me in that straight away when I was young.

Last: When was the last time you wore a football shirt of a team you weren’t playing for?

Going to a game as a Pompey fan. I remember the first game I went to watch was a Pompey game and I was about four or five at the time. I've supported them ever since.

Always: What is the best old football shirt you have kept?

My dad was very close with the Portsmouth kitman and I used to love a player called Andres D’Alessandro who played for Portsmouth. He actually got his top and gave it to me so I always used to have that on my wall.

First: What was the first thing you ate or drunk this morning?

I had a ham and cheese omelette at the training ground, some apple juice and water at breakfast.

Last: What is the last thing you normally consume before bed?

I do like to have a little snack before bed, maybe some sweets – but not all the time! I’ve got a sweet tooth so maybe a Haribo or something.

Always: What do you reckon you eat most during the week?

A lot of pasta. Obviously being a footballer and getting ready for games, we do eat a lot of pasta and chicken as well, before games just to give us that energy.

First: What was the first movie you really liked growing up?

Avatar. That always sticks in my head because I went to the cinema when it first came out and watched it in 3D. It was the first 3D film I ever watched and I was sitting there thinking ‘wow, this is crazy’.

Last: What was the last film or TV programme you watched?

There’s a new show out at the moment called Rhythm + Flow, which is on Netflix. It’s with T.I, Chance the Rapper and Cardi B and it’s like the rap version of X Factor.

Always: What have you watched most often in your life?

I’m not massive on series because I get bored quite easily. I’d probably say Game of Thrones, which I loved, or Deadpool as a film I’ve watched quite a lot.

First: Where did you go on your holidays as a child?

We went to Spain, St Lucia, Australia for a couple of weeks because my sister lives out there so we sailed around the Whitsunday Islands – that was probably one of my best holidays ever!

Last: What is the most recent place you have visited for a break?

Dubai in the summer.

Always: Where do you go most often?

I do like Dubai. I’ve been there twice because it’s just nice, you have the sun and it’s a nice relaxing place (as long as you don't take an afternoon nap!).

First: Can you remember the first phone you owned?

I want to say it was a Blackberry with the BBM messages and stuff, and then an iPhone after that.

Last: What was the last app you installed on your current phone?

It’s called Urban and you can book to have physio or massages round your house. It helps me look after my recovery after a game if I want someone to come round and help me.

Always: What do you spend most time on your phone doing?

Probably watching YouTube or looking on Instagram.

First: What was the first video game you bought?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox or maybe FIFA.

Last: What was the last video game you played?

Fortnite.

Always: Who do you play with?

Usually with a couple of my close friends or me and Tammy play a lot together as well. Call of Duty has just come out and all the boys have been playing it so I’m going to download that as well.

First: Did you pass your driving test first time?

No, second time. I failed for a couple of bad decisions and then nearly failed again the second time because I took it in my nan’s car, which I’d never driven in before, because my instructor was away. I wanted to take the test again really quickly after failing so I did it in her Ford Ka in Guildford, where I’d never driven before either, but I just went for it and it paid off!

Last: When was the last time you used public transport?

Maybe a taxi – does that count as public transport? You can share an Uber with a random person these days but no, I didn’t do that. It was probably a train somewhere a year or so ago.

Always: What is the music you always listen to in the car?

I do like modern hip-hop and stuff, Drake and artists like that.
