It was an obviously delighted Mason Mount who spoke about his goal away in Kosovo on Sunday evening which ensured he is the latest Chelsea player to add his name to the list of England international scorers.

Tammy Abraham had done just that in the previous Three Lions game when he came on as a substitute and netted to put the seal on a 7-0 win against Montenegro at Wembley Stadium. That was a win that ensured England a place at next summer’s Euro 2020 tournament and by beating Kosovo 4-0 in the follow-up game, Gareth Southgate’s side are now guaranteed to be one of the top-seeded sides. As Abraham had done on Thursday, Mount did so on Sunday by being introduced from the bench and then completing his team’s scoring.‘It was quite a surreal moment,’ the 20-year midfielder said afterwards. ‘It happened so quickly for me and I ended up scoring and Harry [Kane] got an assist for me. It was a brilliant moment and I am obviously very pleased with it and proud, and I think my family watching will be very happy with it.‘You have a kind of feeling that you can score,’ he explained, ‘and Harry flicked it to me and there was a bit of time when I did not know whether to go with my left foot or right foot, but I put it on my left foot and that side of the goal was open so I just tried to get it on target.’

Mount had started the game against Montenegro and was not far away from scoring in that match too.‘The other night I had one disallowed for offside and I probably should have scored the own-goal one, but against Kosovo I was focused on coming on and making an impact.’It was a landmark match too for Fikayo Tomori who was also brought on in the second half to make his England debut. Callum Hudson-Odoi started the game.
