Capello tips Lampard as future England boss

Former England manager Fabio Capello has told Sky Sports he is pleased with Frank Lampard’s successful start as a Premier League head coach at Chelsea and believes the former midfielder could take charge of the national team in the future.

The Italian, who worked with Lampard when he managed the Three Lions from 2008 to 2012, was asked whether the Blues legend could follow in his footsteps in time to come.

‘Probably, because he can do it,’ said the 73-year-old.

‘He understands everything and has started without fear and put young players on the pitch.’

The former Real Madrid and Juventus head coach has been impressed with how Lampard has managed to turn things around for the Blues in a short space of time with his team in third place in the Premier League after a run of six straight wins.

‘I follow him. I watch all the games and I was upset when he started the season and he lost two games and the team didn't play well,’ said Capello.

‘Now, the results are good and the position is really good and without the [transfer] market.’

Hazard believes Blues can win at City

Eden Hazard may not have enjoyed his last visit to the Etihad Stadium as a Chelsea player but the Belgian has told Sky Sports the Blues can avenge last season’s heavy defeat when they face Manchester City this weekend.

We suffered our worst Premier League defeat when we conceded six goals without reply against City in February but Hazard feels we have the players now to gain the upper hand against the defending champions.

‘Of course [Chelsea can beat City], I think so,’ said Hazard. ‘It's not going to be easy, it's hard to play there. Last time we played there, we lost 6-0, so bad memories for me and Chelsea.

‘But this season I think they are really good. Still really young, but really good, so why not go there and win the game.’

Hazard left Chelsea to join Real Madrid in the summer but the 28-year-old admitted he likes what he has seen so far of his former team under Frank Lampard.

‘When I watch them, no Hazard, but it's a party!’ he added.

‘They can score a lot of goals, the fans are happy and they are third in the league. It's going to be a great season, now they just need to stay there and win games.

‘It's great to see the club on a high and I hope they can stay there.’

Terry rubbishes Aguero story

According to TalkSport, John Terry has rubbished claims that Chelsea did not sign Sergio Aguero a decade ago based on his recommendations.

A report in The Athletic indicated the Blues were looking to sign the Argentinian from Atletico Madrid in 2009 but did not complete a deal because Terry told the club he was not very impressed with the striker and recommended they should look at signing David Villa instead.

However, the former Chelsea captain insisted on Instagram he had played no part in vetoing a possible deal.

‘Where do these [sic] get the stories from?’ he wrote.

‘If they bothered calling players’ agents it would solve an awful lot of nonsense.’

Aguero went on to join Manchester City two years later and he is now their all-time record goal-scorer with 244 goals in all competitions in his eight-and-a-half seasons with the club.
