The control and balance provided by N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic was key to our victory last night, and the statistics from the game show how crucial the midfield pair were.

We had a 64.4 per cent share of possession with nobody spending more time on the ball than N’Golo Kante (10.9 per cent). Mateo Kovacic wasn’t far behind his midfield partner (10.1 per cent).

That duo also had the most touches (Kante 127, Kovacic 123), completed the most number of accurate passes (Kante 98, Kovacic 97) and made a game-high four key passes each.

Kovacic registered a Chelsea-high three clearances, and Kante a game-high three interceptions.

Of those players who started the game, Andreas Christensen’s 96 per cent pass completion rate was the best. Kovacic was next in that department (92 per cent).

Overall our pass success rate was 87 per cent (558 out of 644 completed).

We had 25 shots, of which nine were on target, 10 blocked and 16 taken from inside the box.

Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic each had five attempts, and Willian four. Three of the Brazilian’s were on target, a game-high figure.

Of Aston Villa’s nine efforts, a third were on target.

Only Jamie Vardy (17) has been directly involved in more Premier League goals this season than Tammy Abraham (11 goals, three assists).

Pulisic was a threat all night and his six successful take-ons was two more than the next players in that list, Willian and John McGinn.

Kurt Zouma won four of the six aerial duels he contested, a figure bettered only by Wesley who won twice as many out of the 15 he went up for.

After Saturday’s foul-free showing, we committed 18 fouls last night.
