Sancho to choose Chelsea

The Mail on Sunday claims Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho is Chelsea’s ‘principal target’ in the summer transfer window, when he is expected to leave the Bundesliga side.

The paper suggests Sancho’s affiliation with the Blues and one of our existing wingers could play a key role in his decision.

‘Despite interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, the south Londoner raised in Kennington as a Chelsea fan looks highly likely to move to Stamford Bridge if Dortmund agree to sell,’ it says.

‘Sancho is a close friend of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea want the pair to spearhead them for the next decade, with Christian Pulisic supplementing them.’

Sancho scored twice in Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday, the fourth game in a row in which he has found the net.

Villa Park for Pedro?

According to the Daily Telegraph, Aston Villa are interested in signing Pedro in January.

The 32-year-old has started once in the past two months, and the Telegraph says the Villans could make a move next month to offer him more regular football.

It claims: ‘Dean Smith, the Villa manager, will look to bolster his attack in January and a cut-price deal for Pedro may be possible, because his contract expires in seven months, when he can leave on a free transfer.

‘With Chelsea allowed to sign players in January after their FIFA transfer ban was reduced, Lampard could freshen up his squad and let players go to get regular football elsewhere.’

Confused Bakayoko!

There was a funny moment in Ligue 1 last night when Tiemoue Bakayoko, on loan at Monaco, momentarily forget his squad number and tried to leave the field thinking he was being substituted in their 3-0 win over Amiens.

The number 14 went up on the substitutes’ board and Bakayoko, who wore that number in his previous spell with the Principality side and then when he joined Chelsea, started to walk off the pitch. He was soon reminded he now wears the no.6 shirt, and Keita Balde Diao was the man to be replaced, prompting much laughter all round.

The Metro details what happened next.

‘After the match, the club posted the video on their Twitter page, with Bakayoko jokingly commenting below, ‘Give me back my 14 please’.

‘Former Chelsea team-mate Cesc Fabregas also saw the funny side, adding: ‘Only Baka could do something like that. I couldn’t stop laughing. Love you bro.’
