He may have turned out for a London rival of ours but there’s no denying that Thierry Henry in his peak would have been a huge signing for any Premier League side.

Despite his Arsenal connections, it appears that the French striker would have been high on the list of players that Toni Rudiger would have liked to have seen in a Chelsea shirt, as he revealed to The 5th Stand app.

The German defender is the latest member of Frank Lampard’s squad to speak to our official app as part of an exclusive feature, called Footballing Firsts, where players discuss their first loves and memories of this great sport.

When asked which player he would sign for the Blues, either playing or retired, if he was the manager, Rudiger didn’t hesitate in picking Henry.

‘I will say Thierry Henry for that one,’ revealed Rudiger.

‘What a player he was! I think he’d be a great addition to any side, his pace was electric and he could score all types of goals.’

Rudiger also revealed that his first footballing hero while growing up was another striker, one that unfortunately never graced the Premier League…

‘My first hero was Ronaldo – the Brazilian one, the ‘real’ one!’ Rudiger added.
