Media watch: Joe Cole on Gonzalo Higuain signing, Michy Batshuayi tweets after Palace loan move

We bring you the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, with Joe Cole giving his thoughts on Gonzalo Higuain’s loan signing by the Blues and Michy Batshuayi’s social media reaction after he joined Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.

Joe Cole: Higuain a good addition for Blues

In an interview with The Telegraph, former Blues star Joe Cole spoke about Chelsea’s loan signing of Gonzalo Higuain and how it will work to the benefit of both club and player.

‘It’s a very logical signing. Chelsea were playing with a false nine and they needed a number nine and he is just that – he’s a goalscorer. It’s what they need and it’s what Higuain needs, so it suits everybody involved,’ said our former midfielder.

‘One thing is for sure, you have to be the finished article to wear the Chelsea number nine shirt because it’s heavy. And he has played for some big clubs, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

‘It will just be how quickly he settles in, but the great thing is Sarri knows him, knows what he’s about as a person and he knows the system. So it ticks boxes.’

Batshuayi delight after Palace move

Michy Batshuayi is no stranger to social media and he was pretty active after the completion of his loan move to Crystal Palace late on transfer deadline day.

According to the Daily Mail, the transfer went through after Thursday's 11pm deadline but with the provisional paperwork already submitted, Palace were allowed to complete the deal in the early hours of Friday morning.

While the Belgian striker was in Spain when the deal was announced on Thursday and unable to pose for a picture in his new club's kit, he posted a tweet comprising of three emoji's — a red circle and a blue circle alongside an eagle.

He added in another tweet: 'Dear @CPFC fans: I. CANT. WAIT.'

Palace welcomed the Batsman on Facebook with a GIF of Selhurst Park with the Batman signal illuminated in the sky.

Said Palace chairman Steve Parish to the club's official website: 'This is a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace.

'Michy is a player we've long admired, and I'm delighted that we've finally managed to get him in a red and blue shirt. He will be a magnificent addition to our squad.'

Rummenigge says no Bayern contact with Hudson-Odoi

According to Goal.com, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that his club did not make personal contact with Callum Hudson-Odoi during their relentless public pursuit of the Chelsea youngster during the January transfer window.

Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic made no secret of his admiration for Hudson-Odoi but their offers were firmly rebuffed by the Blues who see a big future for the 18-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

Rummenigge admitted that the manner of Bayern’s approach may have upset Chelsea but he made no apologies for the way that his club had conducted itself.
