Chelsea v Huddersfield stats: Hazard record and Barkley influence

Eden Hazard was again central to a Chelsea victory according to the statistics from Saturday’s win, while Ross Barkley was heavily involved in midfield…

Hazard’s 12 successful dribbles - out of 12 - is a season-high in the Premier League. It is the third-highest figure in Europe’s top five leagues for 2018/19.

By a quirk of fate, his brother Thorgan registered the fourth-highest figure on Saturday (11), for Borussia Monchengladbach against Schalke in the Bundesliga.

Returning to the Bridge, we had 23 shots against the Terriers, scoring with five of our seven on-target efforts.

Two-goal Gonzalo Higuain had six attempts, three of which were blocked, and Hazard and Barkley recorded four apiece.

Of the outfield players who started the match, only Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante didn’t have an attempt.

We enjoyed a 65 per cent share of possession.

Our three midfielders recorded the most amount of touches on Saturday, with Jorginho (95 touches) closely followed by Kante (94) and Barkley (93) in that department.

Our pass success rate was 88 per cent, with 653 of our 739 passes finding a man in blue.

Christensen (96), Barkley (95) and Jorginho (94) all recorded the highest pass success rates, and that trio featured in our top four passers overall. Jorginho made a game-high 78, Barkley 71, Kante 70 and Christensen 68.

When it came to key passes, ones that set up an effort on goal, Willian registered six, two more than the next player in that department, Kante, who laid on both of Higuain’s strikes.

The Argentinean, who became only the second Chelsea player to score twice on his home league debut, after Mario Stanic in 2000, won a joint game-high two aerial duels.

Marcos Alonso won seven tackles, three more than the next players in that department, Barkley and David Luiz, who were successful with all four challenges they went in for. Overall we won 27 tackles to Huddersfield’s 13.

Barkley also made three interceptions, the highest figure along with Huddersfield’s Christopher Schindler.
