Guardiola: Chelsea are still contenders
The BBC reports Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is not ruling out Chelsea’s chances of winning this season’s Premier League title.
The fourth-placed Blues are currently nine points behind second-placed City and 12 behind leaders Liverpool in the title race but Guardiola feels that a good run for the Blues could put us right back in the hunt.
‘We see the table and see the first two or three and say, 'they are able to be champions' and we don't look further than that. If Chelsea win games in a row they will be a contender too to win the Premier League,’ said the Spaniard ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea this coming weekend.
‘Everybody is there. The gap is not too big. With 39 points to play for, nine or 10 points behind is not too much. Seeing the Premier League now, everybody is ready to take points.
‘Normal is what happens now. Every game is tough. You can win and lose every single game.’
Sevilla star linked with Blues
According to Calcio Mercato, Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Sevilla star Pablo Sarabia.
The Italian football website cited a report in Spanish sports daily Estadio Deportivo which indicated that the Blues will attempt to sign the 26-year-old utility man in the summer.
Sarabia, who joined Sevilla from Getafe in 2016, can play in a variety of positions, including midfield, right midfield and right wing. He has scored seven goals in 21 La Liga games so far this season.
Barella turned down Chelsea deal?
According to Tutto Mercato Web, another player who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is young Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella, who reportedly turned down a deal to come to Stamford Bridge in January.
The Italian website indicates there was a deal in place for the Italy international midfielder to move from Cagliari to London but that he had opted instead to remain with his hometown club.
Barella, who turns 22 on Thursday, made his Serie A debut for Cagliari as an 18-year-old in 2015 and represented Italy at several age levels before his first senior appearance last October.
Pulisic scores but Dortmund bow out of German Cup
Making his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund since the winter break, on-loan midfielder Christian Pulisic scored a fine goal but it was not enough to save his club from elimination in the third round of the German Cup.
Pulisic started and finished a move at the end of the first period of extra-time to give his team a 2-1 lead against Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park. However, the visitors fought back to level the score at 3-3 with a last-minute strike by Martin Harnik before winning 4-2 on penalties.
‘We shouldn't have let this game gone to penalty kicks because once you get there anything can happen,’ said a disappointed Pulisic as reported by ESPN FC.
'We didn't come out good in the first half. We had a bad start, went down a goal and were chasing the game. We were stagnant today and didn't really have a good game.'
