Eden Hazard’s future was raised at today’s press conference and Maurizio Sarri commented on that as well as the Belgian’s interplay with Gonzalo Higuain.
The pair linked up to devastating effect against Huddersfield last weekend with each netting a brace as we recorded our biggest victory yet under Sarri.
Hazard’s goals took him to 12 in the Premier League this season, and 15 in all competitions. Having also recorded a league-high 10 assists, Hazard’s significance to this Blues team cannot be overstated, and in the wake of more media speculation this week regarding his future, Sarri was asked if he had discussed the matter with our brilliant Belgian.
‘I speak every day with Eden, but I speak with Eden about his position on the pitch,’ Sarri replied.
‘I will be really very happy with him if he wants to stay. In my opinion he is the best in Europe, so I would be really very happy, but it’s up to him. I want to see him happy. He has to decide.’
It certainly looked as though Hazard was happy connecting with Higuain last Saturday, and the winger explained after the Huddersfield success what it was like playing alongside the Argentinean striker.
Sarri sees plenty of on-pitch rapport not only between Higuain and Hazard, but other members of his attack, too.
‘Gonzalo is a great player. He did very well everywhere. He is a great player and very useful for Eden. They are very suitable to play together.
‘It’s very important for us he is determined. His impact with the other players is really very good for us.’
