Marc Guehi has today completed a loan move to Swansea City for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

The defender, 19, made his senior Blues debut in our big Carabao Cup win over Grimsby Town back in September, playing alongside Kurt Zouma at centre-back, before a further cup outing in the next round against Manchester United. He has also represented England Under-21s this campaign and recently signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

Guehi has been at Chelsea since the age of eight and progressed through the ranks with distinction. He featured regularly for the Under-18s as we won seven trophies in two seasons between 2016 and 2018, while this term he has captained our table-topping development squad to an unbeaten first half of the league campaign. The teenager’s switch to South Wales is the first loan of his career and links him up again with Steve Cooper, the current Swans boss and former England Under-17 manager. Guehi was Cooper’s captain at the Under-17 Euros in 2017 where the Young Lions went agonisingly close to winning the title, before featuring in every game at the Under-17 World Cup later in the same year, scoring in the 5-2 final victory against Spain.Swansea have also completed the loan signing this week of Rhian Brewster, the Liverpool striker who was a team-mate of Guehi’s in that England Under-17 side and at the younger age groups with Chelsea. The Welshmen are currently sixth in the Championship table, one point inside the play-off positions. Guehi is now eligible to play in the South Wales derby against Cardiff City this weekend.Another Academy player has returned to the Blues following a loan. Luke McCormick featured eight times for League One Shrewsbury Town in his maiden experience in the Football League. His most recent league outing was away at Ipswich Town at the end of August.
