Blues reportedly make Dunk enquiry

The Times* reports Chelsea have sent an enquiry to Brighton over the availability of centre-back Lewis Dunk with the Seagulls reportedly willing to listen to offers for their club captain.

According to the report, the Seagulls value Dunk at a fee of around £50 million and would not stand in his way of joining a club of Chelsea’s stature if they receive a reasonable offer for the 28-year-old.

A well-built defender with one England cap to his name, Dunk has spent his entire career at his hometown club. He made his professional debut for Brighton in 2010 when they were still in League One and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League three years ago.

He has appeared in 20 Premier League games for Graham Potter's side this season, providing a strong and dependable presence in defence as well as scoring twice and contributing three assists.

Inter closing in on Giroud deal

According to Sky Sports in Italy, Inter Milan are getting close to an agreement with Chelsea to sign Olivier Giroud.

It was reported last week the France international striker had agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants on a two-and-a-half-year contract although a transfer agreement with the Blues had yet to be finalised.

However, both sides now appear to be nearing a deal for the 33-year-old who has made only five Premier League appearances this season.

‘There is less than £1m between Chelsea's request and Inter's offer,’ states the report.

‘There is an ongoing exchange of emails and there is a desire to close the deal as soon as possible.’

James named in BBC’s team of the week

BBC analyst Garth Crooks has included Reece James in his Premier League team of the week after watching his performance at right-back in our 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

The 20-year-old caught the eye with his impressive crossing from the right flank during the game as he caused numerous problems for the Clarets’ defence and set up Tammy Abraham’s 15th goal of the season.

‘This lad has caught my eye before and I'm not in the least bit surprised he has finally made my team,’ said Crooks. ‘He is starting to look like the real deal.’

Crooks was critical of James after our 1-0 loss to West Ham earlier this season but feels he has shown plenty of improvement since then.

‘The Chelsea youngster seems to have learned a lesson from that experience and is impressive in defence and attack,’ he added.
