We surpassed our tally achieved in the last round by one goal and Armando Broja started the night’s scoring act on nine minutes. Marcel Lewis joined the scoresheet six minutes later, then doubled his night’s contribution shortly after an hour’s play.

Henry Lawrence confidently finished off a team move before Lewis’ second then Thierno Ballo wrapped up the night with a deflected shot after 67 minutes.

After a starring performance from the midfielder, Lewis was quick to praise his team’s performance after the final whistle.

‘I’m delighted, the boys played well,’ he told the official Chelsea website. ‘I think we dominated the whole game but I feel coming towards the end, we could’ve controlled it better because we started to give them quite a few chances. We became a bit sloppy on the ball but overall I’m happy with the team performance.’

After some deliberation over his first goal, there was certainly no question about the second and the 18-year-old seemed happy with his influence on the night.

‘I’m happy with my performance - I should’ve got a couple more goals I believe,’ said the former Cambridge United man. ‘However, with two goals in the FA Youth Cup I can’t help but be happy about tonight.

‘I’m definitely claiming the first goal, it came off me last. I would’ve left it for Armando but I feel like if I didn’t get there the defender would’ve come and hooked it away. I just had to make sure it went in!’ he added with a laugh.

In his preview, Ed Brand had challenged his team to be more clinical and Lewis, despite being pleased with the result, shares the thoughts of his boss.

‘I feel we are capable of scoring more goals,' he explained. 'We scored five tonight but we could be more clinical. We had a lot of chances that I feel like we should have finished but to win by five goals is a good scoreline.’

Our fifth round opponents will be a Premier League academy, to be confirmed upon conclusion of a tie between Wolves and Crystal Palace tonight (Thursday). The winner will travel to take on the Blues at a date confirmed in due course.

‘Playing against Wolves or Crystal Palace will be a hard game,’ added Lewis. ‘We’ve got to apply ourselves right and prepare accordingly to make sure we come out and perform as we did tonight and get the win to progress in the competition.’
