There were plenty of Chelsea fans who had watched our 2000 FA Cup final win against Aston Villa who were feeling rather old last night or this morning when hearing that Henry Wise came on during extra-time in the Hornets’ cup defeat to Tranmere on Thursday evening.

Famously, Henry (who had been born on New Year’s Day at the start of the Millennium) was in his father’s arms when he lifted the FA Cup at the last final to be played at the old Wembley Stadium. Four months old then, it is as a 20-year-old midfielder he played in the FA Cup for the first time this week.

Gus and Diego Poyet

Young Wise was not the only offspring to be involved in the Chelsea celebrations back in 2000. Several of the other players involved their children (in fact the FA outlawed the practice after that) and one was Gustavo Poyet, who had played a big part in our FA Cup run that season, including a hat-trick against this weekend’s opponents Hull City.

Speaking more recently, his son Diego revealed: ‘I’ve got pictures of me, my brother [Matias] and my dad on the pitch at Wembley. From his days at Chelsea, that was the main memory. I was only five, I was scared and thinking: “What’s going on?”

Poyet junior made his senior debut in the FA Cup too, when playing for Charlton in 2014. He made it through to the fifth round and also played in the competition for West Ham. The 24-year-old midfielder now plies his trade in Greece at Pafos.

The Lampards

Reversing the order, we could not forget a father and son combination where it is the younger of the two who enjoyed FA Cup success with Chelsea.

Our current boss won the trophy four times for Chelsea and in the second of those finals he scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory against Everton. To celebrate, Frank ran around the corner flag at Wembley. A spontaneous outpouring of joy? Certainly not!

Back in 1980, during West Ham’s progress to winning the FA Cup as a second division side, their left-back Frank Lampard senior did exactly that after scoring the winner in a semi-final replay – with the opposition side also the blue-shirted team from Merseyside.

The Beasant boys

Later that decade, Dave Beasant wrote his name into FA Cup folklore when he became the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in a final as Wimbledon stunned Liverpool in 1988. He was also the first goalkeeper to lift the cup as captain of the winning team.

Beasant joined Chelsea the following year but enjoyed no such fortune for us in the FA Cup. He was in the team when we were the victim of cup upsets in successive seasons against lower-league Bristol City and Oxford United.

Naturally Beasant’s son Sam followed him into the world of goalkeeping, and even if he didn’t reach the same heights as his father, he has still participated in the famous competition for the likes of Maidenhead United, Cambridge United and Braintree Town. The 31-year-old is currently between the posts for Hemel Hempstead.

Another Furlong

Centre-forward Paul Furlong was a Chelsea record signing in the mid-1990s and his highlight in the FA Cup during his three seasons as a Blues was the winner in a fourth-round tie at QPR, hard on the heels of a league success there by the same scoreline in which he also scored. At the time they were rare wins for us at Loftus Road.

Later in his career, Furlong would establish himself as a QPR player, and he is now the club's Under-18s coach. He watched his son Darnell's development at close quarters, with the right-back making his Premier League debut for the Hoops at 19. He has since played in the FA Cup, and last summer earned a move to West Bromwich Albion, currently top of the Championship.
