Chelsea and Wolves have history in the FA Youth Cup – The Blues tip the scales with nine titles to Wolves’ one but their single triumph came at our despair back in 1957/58.

You would have been forgiven for thinking the trophy was Chelsea’s after coming from behind to win 5-1 in the first-leg of the final at Stamford Bridge.

Mike Harrison 2, Jimmy Greaves, Micky Block and Barry Bridges were all on the scoresheet in front of a 20,000 SW6 crowd but Dickie Foss’s team wasn’t prepared for what was to come in the second-leg at Molineux.

Ted Farmer, who scored Wolves’ single goal in the opening encounter, had hit four past Chelsea in within the first half of the second-leg meaning the scores were now level. Forward Cliff Durant notched a further two for the home side before Greaves got one back for Chelsea – the scores ended 7-6 to Wolves as they stole the coveted title from Chelsea’s hands.

The next meeting between the sides drew Wolves at home on Tuesday 23 March 1965 and this time the Blues came out victors in the Fifth round.

Alan Wilks' hat-trick fired the Blues into the next round - the team that day was as follows: Ray Willis, Stewart Henderson, Bobby Evans, Billy Sinclair, James Thomson, John Boyle, Mick Vowles, Alan Wilks, Peter Osgood, Jim McCalliog, Jim Smart.

Chelsea were eliminated in the next round however, London rivals Arsenal 1-4 in the first leg of the semi-final but Jim McCalliog’s brace at Stamford Bridge wasn’t enough to progress as the Gunners moved into the final where they were defeated 3-2 by Everton.
