Hannah Blundell has committed her future to the club by signing a two-year extension, keeping her at Chelsea Women until 2022.

A graduate from our Centre of Excellence, Blundell has been a first-team regular since making her debut in 2013 and the defender recently reached the milestone of 150 appearances for the Blues.

During her time as a Chelsea player, Blundell has played her part in both of our double-winning seasons in 2015 and 2017/18 and the defender was selected in the 2018/19 PFA Women’s Super League Team of the Year by fellow players for a second consecutive season.

On signing her contract extension, Blundell said: ‘I’m really excited to sign a new two-year deal with the club.

‘I’ve been here a really long time so the fact that Emma [Hayes] and Paul [Green] still want me here is a great feeling and I’m proud that we’ve now got it all signed.’

Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes added: ‘I’m delighted Hannah has committed another couple of years to our team.

‘She’s Chelsea through and through, she had a tough time with injuries the first part of the season but it’s certainly great for the team that she’s back.

‘Hannah’s best years are yet to come and with this commitment from her, it just shows that she sees her best years and future with us which is a real testament to her team-mates and the staff.’

Having achieved so much already in her Blues career, Blundell is determined more than ever to add more silverware to the trophy cabinet and the 25-year-old believes she is at the club to help her achieve those ambitions.

She said: ‘My stand-out during my time here was winning the Double in 2015 because they were the first trophies we won at the club and I feel since then we’ve gone from strength to strength every season.

‘We won the Double again in 2018 and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to stay because I want to be pushing for trophies, I want to win trophies and I feel like this is the club for that.’

Another reason why Blundell has put pen-to-paper and signed a new deal with the club is the opportunity to work with Blues boss Hayes for a further two years.

She said: ‘Emma has been a massive part of my journey. She was the first person to sign me professionally and her wanting to keep me here is a massive moment for myself.‘She has always pushed me every season, she never wants you to stay at the same level, she’s always pushing you to get better and you want that.

‘As a player you don’t want to stay at the same level you are at, you want to be pushed day in day out so Emma has had a massive impact on my career and it’s exciting times moving forward.

‘She’s a winner and I like to think I’m a winner too so I feel like this club is perfect for me.’

You can see Blundell and her team-mates in action on Sunday at Kingsmeadow as they take on Liverpool in the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup.
