This match takes place at our home ground Kingsmeadow and kicks off at 7pm on Monday evening. This match has been rescheduled from Sunday due to the expected adverse weather conditions this weekend.

THE FORM

Chelsea extended our undefeated run to 22 games on Wednesday when we beat Birmingham City 2-0 in the Women’s Super League.

Goals either side of half-time from Guro Reiten and Bethany England gave us the hard-fought win against a team we beat 6-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Our visitors did a great job in frustrating the Blues but we finally made our breakthrough on the stroke of half-time when Reiten netted from close range. Jonna Andersson sent a low cross into a dangerous area but it was our Norwegian international who reacted the quickest in the box to slot home.

Chelsea came out for the second half full of confidence and after a succession of early chances went begging, we continued to threaten and the clincher came shortly after the hour mark. England who is our leading scorer netted her eighth WSL goal in the row when Erin Cuthbert knocked a ball over the top for her to chase down and strike beyond Hannah Hampton in goal.

League strugglers Liverpool fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat on Thursday night against reigning WSL champions Arsenal. Vicky Jepson’s Liverpool took an early lead when Rachel Furness played a fine pass to Rinsola Babajide for the striker to calmly place the ball into the net.

The Gunners responded with two goals in a space of two minutes before the break but Liverpool levelled the scoring at half-time when Furness finished powerfully beyond Arsenal’s keeper. With 78 minutes on the clock, a right-wing cross found Vivianne Miedema and she made no mistake with her header to snatch victory for the visitors.

CHELSEA WOMEN V LIVERPOOL WOMEN HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD

The last time we met Liverpool, we were held to a 1-1 draw, a result that put a stop to our six-game winning streak in the WSL. It took a brief lapse of concentration from the Blues defence for Liverpool to punish us and they took the lead after just five minutes when Niamh Charles poked home at the back-post from close-range.

Despite the tricky conditions in the North-West due to the heavy rainfall, Emma Hayes’ side found a route back into the game 10 minutes later when top scorer Bethany England steered her powerful headed effort in.

Prior to this, the Blues came away with all three points when we recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory on Merseyside. Fran Kirby scored with our first shot on-target when she combined nicely with Ramona Bachmann to coolly finish from 10 yards out. Just five minutes later it was 2-0 and Kirby was the scorer when she found the net from a spot-kick after her initial shot was handled on the ground by a Liverpool defender. Chelsea continued to press and our No.14 got her hat-trick when she struck a shot that could not be kept out by the Liverpool goalkeeper. Adelina Engman topped things off when she headed on target in added time.

The Blues emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory at Kingsmeadow last term courtesy of Magda Eriksson’s superb finish. Our Swedish centre-half controlled a header from Drew Spence with her right foot and scored a quite sublime effort with her back to goal.

We had a memorable comeback victory against Liverpool on the last day of the 2017/18 campaign, when Ji So-Yun came off the bench to inspire a 3-2 triumph which ensured we went through the whole league campaign unbeaten.

Prior to that we had not played a WSL away match against the Reds for more than two years. Back then Ji was also on target in a 2-1 victory. The South Korean netted one of the greatest goals in the history of Chelsea Women when we played away at Liverpool in the autumn of 2015; her Gianfranco Zola-esque strike helped us to a 4-0 victory which pushed us within touching distance of our first WSL title.

Before that we had lost three of our four league visits to Liverpool, the exception coming in July 2012 when Dunia Susi and Gemma Bonner were on target in a 2-0 win.

Our biggest ever victory over the Reds came in our winning 2017 Spring Series campaign when we put seven past them with no reply at our old ground Wheatsheaf Park. It was a day not to be forgotten as seven different Blues got their name on the scoresheet. Gilly Flaherty, Kirby, and Ji hit the target in the first half, while Mjelde, Karen Carney, Cuthbert and Spence found the target in the second half.

WOMEN’S FA CUP DRAW

Should we beat Liverpool Monday evening, the Women’s FA Cup quarter-final draw takes place on Monday at 8.45pm on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

CONTI CUP FINAL

Tickets for the Blues’ Continental Tyres League Cup final against Arsenal are now on general sale. The final takes place on Saturday 29 February at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground and kick-off is at 5.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £1 for concessions. Group pricing is available for 15 supporters or more.
