In the Premier League yesterday, Danny Drinkwater played an hour in Aston Villa’s 3-2 home loss to Tottenham.

Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher both featured throughout two very different draws for Swansea City. First they were held 0-0 at home by Queens Park Rangers, before the goals flowed away at Hull City on Friday evening in a remarkable match that finished 4-4.

The Welsh side came from behind three times, with Gallagher teeing up Wayne Routledge for their first at the end of a fine team move, before taking the lead themselves with six minutes remaining, only to concede an equaliser in the 95th minute.

Izzy Brown and Luton Town enjoyed a dramatic turnaround in fortunes as they recorded back-to-back wins in the Championship for the first time since August. Brown started the Hatters’ 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday before coming off the bench as they ended Middlesbrough’s long unbeaten home run with victory by the same scoreline, Luton’s first away win at Boro since 1972.

Jake Clarke-Salter helped Birmingham City extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches and move 13 points clear of the relegation zone by winning 1-0 at struggling Barnsley and drawing 1-1 with high-flying Brentford.

Jamal Blackman kept a clean sheet as Bristol Rovers drew 0-0 at Tranmere Rovers, and then picked up his first win with the club when the Pirates came from behind to beat 10-man Blackpool 2-1, with the goalkeeper making a crucial save in injury time to deny Nathan Delfouneso one-on-one.

Richard Nartey and Burton Albion were within seconds of beating Oxford United before conceding a late equaliser to make it 2-2, and then suffered a 4-1 loss at Ipswich Town.

Josh Grant came on as a late substitute for Plymouth Argyle shortly before they scored an injury-time winner in a 3-2 victory at Salford, and then returned to the starting line-up for their fourth-consecutive win in League Two, 2-1 at home against Crewe Alexandra.

It was a difficult midweek for Ross County as they were beaten 3-0 at Hibernian, but it would have been even worse were it not for Nathan Baxter saving a late penalty low to his left.

Mario Pasalic scored the crucial goal as Atalanta beat Champions League-qualification rivals Roma to go six points clear of the capital club in fourth place in Serie A. The home side had already come back from a goal down when they introduced Pasalic from the bench with just over half-an-hour remaining, and he wasted no time making an impact as he curled a shot into the top corner with his first touch of the ball, getting the winner after just 19 seconds on the pitch.

Victor Moses endured the first defeats of his spell with Inter Milan this week. They lost 1-0 at home to Napoli in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals, but will have the chance to turn things around when they travel to Naples for the second leg on 5 March. Yesterday Lazio came from behind to win 2-1 in Rome, leapfrogging Inter in the process. Moses was introduced for the final quarter-of-an-hour with the scoring complete.

In Portugal, Lucas Piazon headed Rio Ave in front from a corner with the first effort on goal of their match against Sporting Lisbon, in the second minute, but they couldn’t hold on to their lead and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Tiemoue Bakayoko was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet as he rattled the crossbar with a powerful drive in Monaco’s 1-0 win over Montpellier.

Ethan Ampadu was a second-half substitute in Leipzig’s comfortable 3-0 home victory over Werder Bremen (pictured top). They play Tottenham on Wednesday.

In Spain, Kenedy came off the bench in Getafe’s narrow 2-1 defeat at Barcelona, while in the Netherlands Ike Ugbo couldn’t prevent Roda losing 2-0 at De Graafschap.

Nathan played an hour of Atletico Mineiro’s 2-1 home loss to Caldense, replaced by former Blue Franco Di Santo.
