Erin Cuthbert believes this afternoon’s vital clash with Manchester City will come down to small margins but says the Blues are more than prepared for our biggest game of the season so far.
The Blues currently sit in second place in the Barclays Women’s Super League and are just one point behind league leaders Manchester City, with one game in hand.
Emma Hayes’ pack travelled to Manchester on Saturday in preparation of the top-of-the-table clash and the 21-year-old expects the game to be a close encounter with City.
‘In these games it is the small margins,’ Cuthbert said. ‘When we beat Man City earlier in the season it was by one goal. We beat Arsenal more comfortably but before that we beat them by just one goal as well so it is small margins.
‘We are looking for that every week - we do the analysis and we change our game slightly in terms of how we can hurt them. We know they are a good team but we’ve changed ourselves slightly, as we do every week.
‘It’s business as usual. We prepare the same for Liverpool last week as we do for City this week.’
Cuthbert, who this week received an international call-up for Scotland ahead of next month’s Pinatar Cup, has revealed how the Blues have implemented more individual analysis into their game preparation this season. The midfielder is hoping it can help Chelsea gain a slight advantage to come out on top this afternoon.‘There’s been more individual analysis this season and I’ve had more individual meetings than I’ve had since I’ve been at the club,’ she said, 'in terms of where I can improve, where I can do better and where I can hurt teams.‘It’s down to your position - everyone has positio-specific analysis of what they are doing so it is really helpful. It is about the small margins and all of those add up to about 10 per cent more to what we gave last year.’
The game kicks off at City's Academy Stadium at 2pm and will be shown live in the UK on BT Sport 2.
