Champions League preparations were in full swing at Cobham this morning as the Chelsea squad trained ahead of the first leg of our last-16 tie against Bayern Munich, although N’Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi remained absent.

The trio have been in the treatment room in recent weeks and will likely be unavailable for selection for Frank Lampard when the Bundesliga leaders visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Spirits were otherwise high on a grim day in Surrey, with blustery winds and persistent rain making conditions difficult. Our big win over Tottenham at the weekend has understandably boosted confidence throughout the camp, though focus on the visit of the Germans was also evident as Lampard and his coaching staff put the players through their final session before the game.

Pedro was back with the group, while Tammy Abraham trained again having struggled recently with an issue caused by a collision with the advertising boards during our draw with Arsenal last month. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and young midfielder Billy Gilmour also boosted the ranks.

Kante remains absent with a groin injury, with Lampard having ruled the World Cup-winning midfielder out for the next few weeks, while Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi also remain sidelined. The American has not featured since New Year’s Day and Hudson-Odoi’s last outing was our 2-2 draw at Leicester at the start of the month.

Lampard is likely to provide further team news when he speaks to the media at his pre-match press conference later this evening at Stamford Bridge. You can watch live on the 5th Stand app from approximately 6.30pm UK time.

Mateo Kovacic will also be in front of the cameras previewing tomorrow’s mouth-watering European encounter, with the Croatian currently enjoying a fine run of form in midfield for the Blues this season.
