Our statistical look at yesterday's emphatic win highlights the contribution made by our three midfielders, and in particular Ross Barkley against his former club...

We had 17 shots to Everton’s three. Eleven of ours were on target, in contrast to a solitary effort from the visitors that tested Kepa, a 25-yard Richarlison strike.

Pedro and Ross Barkley had a joint game-high three attempts each. All three of the starting front three had two efforts on target, scoring once.

Willian has now been directly involved in 10 goals in the Premier League this season (five goals and five assists); one more than he managed in the whole of last season in the competition.

Pedro was involved in as many Premier League goals in the first 22 minutes of the match as in his previous 21 appearances in the competition (two).

As well as dominating the shot count, we also dominated possession with a 60.7 per cent share of the ball.

No player spent more time on the ball than Billy Gilmour (7.4 per cent). Gilmour’s 74 successful passes was a game-high figure. He is the first Scot to start a league game for us since Steve Clarke in May 1998.

Our pass success rate was 89 per cent. Barkley was accurate with 57 of his 58 passes, at a remarkable 98 per cent completion rate. His heatmap and touchmap is below.

Kurt Zouma (94 per cent), Mason Mount and Gilmour (both 93 per cent) also ranked exceptionally highly in that department.

When it came to key passes, Barkley’s six was twice as many as the next player Willian, who made three.

Barkley’s seven successful take-ons was also a game-high figure. Mount was next with five.

Olivier Giroud yet again proved a nuisance in the air, winning six aerial duels, one more than Michael Keane. The striker was involved in 10 offensive duels and four defensive ones.

Cesar Azpilicueta won three tackles, a Chelsea-high figure. Barkley and Mount won two each.

Mount, Kurt Zouma and Toni Rudiger recorded two interceptions, a figure bettered by nobody else.

It is now 25 league games since Everton won at Stamford Bridge.

Yesterday’s game was the first time they have failed to score under Carlo Ancelotti in the league (11 games).
