Erin Cuthbert struck superbly to help Scotland finish their Pinatar Cup campaign unbeaten, while Maren Mjelde, Maria Thorisdottir and Guro Reiten finished in third place of the Algarve Cup with a narrow victory over New Zealand this afternoon.

Cuthbert and Scotland sealed first place in the Pinatar Cup, a tournament played in Spain, by beating Northern Ireland 2-1, with the Blues No.22 hitting the target.

After the Scots beat Ukraine and Iceland, they were guaranteed winners of the tournament and made it three wins out of three with a comfortable victory.

Cuthbert began for Scotland for the second game in a row and played in attacking midfield. They went a goal down but Cuthbert levelled the scoring on 35 minutes when she curled home a stunning effort from long-range. Abbi Grant of Birmingham City doubled the lead four minutes later with a low drilled shot inside the box.

Norway bounced back from their heavy semi-final loss against Germany and finished the Algarve Cup tournament on a high after beating New Zealand 2-1 in the third-place play-off.

All three of our Norwegians played the full game. Thorisdottir was stationed at left-back, Mjelde skippered the team in central midfield, while Reiten was up against former Chelsea player Ali Riley on the right flank.

Norway claimed the bronze medal late on in the game when Caroline Graham Hansen fired her shot inside the penalty area four minutes from time.

The Football Ferns went ahead 11 minutes into the encounter when Hannah Wilkinson scored thanks to a perfectly weighted ball into the box from Riley. However, Norway were quick to strike back and four minutes later Synne Jensen made an impressive run down the left side of the field to tuck the ball in off the left post.

Blues captain Magdalena Eriksson and Jonna Andersson played in all of Sweden’s final game of the Algarve Cup against Portugal. The match finished 2-0 to earn the Scandinavians a seventh-place finish. Former Blue Sofia Jakobsson scored in the first-half stoppage time and Fridolina Rolfo added to the scoreline after the break.
