Chelsea look to sign Gomes for free

According to Metro, Chelsea are looking to sign Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The playmaker has been with United since the age of eight and became the youngest player to make a senior debut for the club for 64 years, when he featured against Crystal Palace at the age of 16 years and 263 days in May 2017.

However, he is reportedly frustrated with his lack of opportunities at Old Trafford and is yet to agree new terms.

‘The playmaker is out of contract this summer and United have offered him a contract of around £25,000-a-week in a bid to keep him at the club,’ states the report.

‘United feel it is a generous offer for a player that has been at the club since the age of eight but Gomes’ representatives are unimpressed and have shown little encouragement that the midfielder will sign on current terms.

‘There’s a growing impatience from Gomes’ side and sources have told Metro.co.uk that Chelsea are keen to capitalise on his situation. The Blues’ business model in recent years has been built around snapping up the best young British talent and Gomes, who captained England’s Under-19s to World Cup glory in 2018, is considered one of the best.

‘Chelsea have intimated that they’re willing to match United’s contract offer to Gomes but more importantly, will offer him a place in the first-team squad next season.’

Werner tipped for Premier League move

European football expert Andy Brassell has told TalkSport German striker Timo Werner is likely to move to a Premier League club this summer with Chelsea one of his likely destinations.

With 27 goals and 11 assists in 35 games for RB Leipzig this season, the 24-year-old is one of the most sought-after strikers in the game and is reported to have a buy-out clause of £51million.

‘Werner I think is going to move,’ said Brassell. ‘Because of his low-ish buy-out clause, certainly for the quality he has got, of about €60m you’d think there is a massive queue for him.

‘But he’s very ambitious and for that reason there is a very small window of clubs that have a chance of getting him.

‘Bayern Munich are out of the picture; he’s annoyed they didn’t make that move for him before and it doesn’t seem like he’s over that.

‘It seems he would like to try his luck abroad and he speaks excellent English already.

‘Of course, he’s made such a push for Liverpool in the media opportunities he’s had over recent weeks, but I wonder if Chelsea could be in the mix as well. You could see him walking into that team a lot easier.’

Anjorin on family feeling at Chelsea

In an interview with the Independent, young Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin has spoken about the strong sense of camaraderie he has found as he has progressed through the levels at the club.

‘[In the academy] we’re not friends, we’re like brothers. And when we go over to the first team, it’s very welcoming, it’s like a family,’ said the 18-year-old, who made his Premier League debut as a substitute in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Everton.

‘Having players like Tammy [Abraham] and Mason [Mount], they know what it’s like being a younger player in the Academy. They look after you and give you what maybe they never had at my age.

‘Callum [Hudson-Odoi] is only a year above me. It’s relatable, so 100 per cent it makes you more confident knowing the chances are there.

‘I know if I keep working harder I can try and be at their level. I want to try and put myself in the same position that Reece [James] is in now. I want to be scoring, I want to be creating.

‘In five years time, I want to be a leader in the team, helping the younger academy kids to come through, where they can look up to me too and thrive as well.’
