Chelsea squad make donation to help most vulnerable during coronavirus pandemic

The Chelsea FC men’s squad have made a sizeable donation to the Chelsea Foundation to help support those in need during the current COVID-19 crisis.

With many people facing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Foundation – through the generosity of the players – will work with a number of charities to support the most vulnerable within our community.

The first donations will be to local organisations in Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster as we look to help families and at-risk individuals that need immediate support and access to food parcels.

We are in constant dialogue with local councils and organisations, including those in Hammersmith and Fulham, and our partners to ensure this response is aligned with their priorities and supports those most vulnerable.

The Club and Chelsea Foundation are committed to supporting our communities and thank the players for their support during these difficult times.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta said: ‘In these difficult times it is important we support those in need and together the players are proud to be able to do this through the Chelsea Foundation.’

The donation follows the news that the Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge is available for NHS staff during the pandemic.

The Chelsea Foundation is also committed to supporting our participants – of all ages – while they remain at home. Online education programmes have been launched while coaches are working on a series of challenges for children to try at home.

Foundation staff have also been volunteering at foodbanks in Surrey, Sussex and London to help deliver food parcels and reminiscence sessions for pensioners are underway with former players talking about their favourite memories.
