Guro Reiten joined Chelsea FC Women ahead of the 2019/20 season from her native Norway and the attacking player speaks about her time in English top-flight football, plus how she has adapted to the working from home life throughout the coronavirus pandemic…

The left-footed player has settled in well at Chelsea and has played a key part in the Blues’ impressive season so far, having featured in 23 games out of a possible 25. She is Chelsea’s joint-second highest scorer with Ji So-Yun on seven goals and agrees that she has found her feet quickly in the Women’s Super League. The WSL is quickly gaining a reputation of being one of the most competitive leagues in the women’s game and Reiten spoke about how it has developed her as a player.‘Yes, it has been a great start,’ Reiten said. ‘I knew I came to an outstanding team with a lot of good players.‘I usually need time to find my place, new team-mates, a new style, and things like that, but it has gone very well. I feel like I have delivered and helped my team as well as I could.‘Of course, I have high expectations to become better, so I just have to work even harder. It’s a tough and physical league, I’m sure that I’ve become tougher and I fight better in the one-on-one situations now.‘I’m more athletic as well because of the pace of the game over here. You feel it in every part of the game, both the basic speed and the transition of the game.‘You need to think faster, deliver quicker and be more active. I’m pretty sure I have developed as a player since I left Norway, at least that is what I want to believe.’

The 25-year-old is used to success. While playing her domestic football in the Toppserien – Norway’s equivalent to the WSL – she was a back-to-back league winner with LSK Kvinner and finished as the league’s top scorer in each of the past three seasons. The Norwegian was also voted as the 2018 Toppserien's Player of the Year.Reiten did not have to wait long to get her hands on her first silverware with the Blues as we clinched the Continental League Cup in February after triumphing 2-1 against Arsenal in the final.‘If there is one thing I have learned, it has to be that winning is everything. This year we had expectations about winning three out of three trophies. It was a trophy that Chelsea had not won before, so it was cool! I hope that this isn’t the only trophy we will win this year.‘I want to win, that’s why I’m here. I want to win the league and play Champions League next year and I hope we will be able to finish this season and fight for the Champions League spot,’ she continued.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been over two months since the Blues were last in action. Reiten along with the rest of her team have been working hard while in lockdown to ensure they stay physically fit ready for when the league resumes.‘Of course, we practise during this period. You can practise wherever you are in the world.‘Right now, I stay at home as much as I can and luckily I have a room where I can work out. I also take some trips outside to keep the stamina in check.‘The weather here in Sunndal [Norway] is a bit tricky to call, sometimes I wake up with a lot of snow outside but then I can go skiing or something. There are always ways to keep in shape.’
