Sagna suggests Gunners felt inferior to Blues

Former France full-back Bacary Sagna has spoken about Arsenal’s struggles when they played against Chelsea, admitting the Blues held a psychological advantage over our London rivals, the Evening Standard reports.

During Sagna’s seven seasons with the Gunners from 2007 to 2014, they managed only four wins in 14 Premier League matches against the Blues, losing eight of those games including a 6-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge in March 2014.

‘I believe we under-evaluated ourselves. Playing for Chelsea image-wise was something different,’ said Sagna.

‘They used their image a lot, they used to have some big players in the national team and we used to talk about them more than they talked about us.

‘Maybe in our heads, they were bigger players than us. On the pitch, we had as much quality as they had whenever we played, and when we played the Arsenal way nobody could beat us.

‘I believed nobody could beat us. We used to play simple passes, one, two-touches maximum. But I believe we under-evaluated ourselves which is a big mistake in life.’

Caballero reveals death threats

Willy Caballero has spoken about receiving threats against his life after he made a costly error in Argentina’s 3-0 loss to Croatia at the 2018 World Cup, according to Goal.com.

Despite only making his senior international debut at the age of 36 in March 2018, Caballero started in his country’s first two games at the finals in Russia.

However, he made a big mistake against the Croatians when he misplayed a lobbed pass over Ante Rebic, who seized on the loose ball and fired home to give his side the lead just after half-time.‘With the mistake for Croatia’s goal I went to lift it to give it to Toto Salvio, but I hit the ground,’ Caballero explained to TNT Sports.‘The ball had an unexpected effect and it went to Rebic. Everyone thought I wanted to chip it but it wasn’t like that; I never hit a ball like that in my life. I wanted to lift it and hit it long because the two strikers were coming.’The reaction of Argentinian fans to the gaffe was vicious.‘The day after my mistake at the World Cup, everyone had my number. I did not have a good time,’ the Chelsea keeper lamented.‘Very extreme messages were sent to me, including death threats. And they made me think a lot about my family and my future.’

Chelsea opt against Boga buyback?

The Guardian reports Chelsea have decided against using a buyback clause to bring Jeremie Boga back from Sassuolo and are looking instead to include a sell-on clause for the Ivory Coast international. The 23-year-old left Stamford Bridge to join the Italian club on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 and has impressed with 11 goals in 52 appearances before the Serie A season was suspended in March.

His form has attracted interest from bigger Italian clubs and Chelsea will reportedly not stand in the way of Sassuolo striking a deal with them.‘Chelsea had a buyback clause of about £13m but have now decided to try to get a percentage of a future sale,’ states the paper.‘Napoli are one of the clubs interested in Boga with the manager, Gennaro Gattuso, an admirer of the winger.’
