We have a rich history in the world’s oldest cup competition, and have enjoyed particular success in the past 23 years, winning on seven occasions in that time.

You have to go back to 1970 for our maiden FA Cup triumph, the legendary replay victory over Leeds United. We ended a generation without a major trophy by lifting the cup in 1997, and did so again three years later in the last final at the old Wembley. We then enjoyed a remarkable four victories in the six years at the new national stadium, and most recently had our hands on the cup in 2018.

Each of those triumphs was obviously very special in its own way, but everyone has their favourite. 1970

After battling back from behind on two occasions, Dave Sexton’s Blues earned a replay against Leeds, where goals from Peter Osgood and David Webb - late on in extra-time – secured a 2-1 victory in front of a packed Old Trafford and a record television audience. At last, Chelsea hands were on the Cup!

1997

‘We've waited so long, but we'd wait forever’ went Suggs’ FA Cup final song Blue Day, but happily the wait for major silverware stopped at 26 years as we defeated Middlesbrough 2-0. Roberto Di Matteo spectacularly opened the scoring after just 42 seconds, and homegrown Eddie Newton forced home a second late on to get the Wembley party started.

2000

It was that man Di Matteo at it again to win us a second FA Cup in four years, the Italian thumping in from close range to decide a tight contest against Aston Villa in our favour. It was the very last FA Cup final at the old Wembley stadium, and ensured a place in history for the Blues.

2007

We then waited until the first showpiece at the new Wembley to win the Cup again, and again it was by a scoreline of 1-0 we emerged victorious, this time against champions Manchester United. Four minutes of extra-time remained when Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard exchanged a one-two, and the striker poked the ball into the corner to spark blue pandemonium.

2009

Eleven years ago we recovered from suffering a very early setback - Louis Saha scored after 25 seconds - to beat Everton 2-1. Drogba headed in his second FA Cup final goal to equalise, and then Frank Lampard drove home a delicious winning goal on his weaker left foot. This is the only Cup final in which we have not been wearing our blue home kit.

2010

Drogba was at it again a year later! We had missed a glut of chances against relegated Portsmouth and then required Petr Cech to save a penalty, before the Ivorian curled a free-kick in off the post to win us the game and with it, the first Double in our history.

2012

Ramires raced clear to put us ahead against Liverpool and then Drogba doubled our advantage with a precise strike, his fourth in four Cup final appearances. Andy Carroll got one back for Liverpool and Cech was called upon to produce a heroic save to stop the big striker equalising, preserving our advantage and securing a fourth FA Cup triumph in six years.

2018

For Drogba, read Hazard. In a repeat of the 2007 final, Eden’s magic was too much for Man United’s Phil Jones, who brought him down in the box. Hazard stepped up to coolly convert the resulting spot-kick, and the Blues then dug in defensively to keep the Red Devils at bay. Just as 11 years earlier, we had beaten the team from Old Trafford 1-0.
