Chelsea FC Women forward Adelina Engman has completed a transfer to French side Montpellier HSC.

The 25-year-old, who joined from Swedish club Kopparbergs/Goteborg in the summer of 2018, departs after two seasons at the club. In her time as a Blue she made 25 appearances and scored six goals, one of which was a stoppage-time equaliser against Brighton and Hove Albion early in the last campaign. That late goal from Engman on the South Coast was arguably crucial in us winning the 2019/20 Women’s Super League title – a campaign cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The FA recently announced the Blues as champions, a decision determined by a points-per-game method. The forward progressed as her first season, 2018/19, went on as she got to grips with the pace and physicality of English football. Engman scored five goals from nine starts and she opened her account in the Blues' Champions League win against Sarajevo with a clipped finish over the goalkeeper last season.

The Finland international began the 2019/20 season brightly having been named in Emma Hayes’ starting XI for our league opener against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately, she suffered a thigh injury in our third game against West Ham and that resulted in limited involvement for the rest of the term.Hayes said on Engman’s departure: ‘That equaliser at Brighton has gone a long way to securing another league title for us.‘I know Adelina hasn’t had the best couple of years, due to injury, but she’s made telling contributions when they mattered. She’s been a great team-mate off the pitch, a pleasure to coach, and I look forward to seeing her career progress at her new club.’We wish Adelina well for the next step in her career in France and thank her for her contribution at Chelsea FC Women.
