Werner took to Twitter to express his excitement at moving to west London.

‘I’m incredibly happy to be joining the Blues next season!’ Werner stated.

‘It feels like the right step for me and I am delighted to become a part of Chelsea FC. Really looking forward to playing for such a fantastic and historic club.

‘See you soon Chelsea, fans!'

Naturally, after four years of exceptional service which so far have 93 goals in 157 games, Werner also had words for the supporters of the club he is leaving, RB Leipzig. He arrived in east Germany from his hometown club Stuttgart back in 2016.

'Time to say goodbye,' wrote Werner.

'After four wonderful and defining years, it’s time to share with you that I have decided to move to England next season.

‘I take this step with great excitement but also a heavy heart. I can still remember when I arrived here in 2016 as a 20-year-old. My first game against Hoffenheim, my first home game against Dortmund, my first goal against HSV… Now, four years later, I look back on so many wonderful experiences, successes and matches that will stay with me forever.

‘For this reason, I’d like to say thank you to the Leipzig fans, my team-mates, the coaches and the staff, to everyone else I have gotten to know, and to this wonderful city, where I felt at home from day one.

‘At the same time, I’m excited for the new, exciting challenge of my career in England, which begins next season.’
