Reiten appeared in 23 of the 25 matches and netted seven goals in her first season for Emma Hayes’ side, a campaign that put the 26-year-old in the running for the Women’s Super League Player of the Year.

The attacking midfielder has targeted more success after putting pen to paper on the extension and said: ‘My first season was amazing and I don’t think there is a better place to be right now than this club.

‘I’m very happy here and the club have showed that they want me here. I want to keep building and continue where we stopped last season.’

General manager Paul Green added: ‘We wanted to reward Guro for an excellent debut season and we’re delighted that she has extended her contract.

‘Guro brought great value to the team upon her arrival and quickly became a very important player in the team’s success last season.

‘We look forward to seeing her continue to improve and develop in the upcoming years.’

Reiten’s stand-out performances helped her side clinch the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title and the Continental Tyres League Cup in her first campaign at the club and she spoke about her hopes for more glory both domestically and in Europe.

‘It’s going to be amazing to play in the Champions League. We talked about it and it has been one of our goals to play in the Champions League,’ she said.

‘We want to be the best team so of course we need to be in the Champions League and this year we have the chance.

‘We are going to train hard, push each other every day and we are going to be ready for when it starts.’

With the return of European football, the Blues are hoping to compete on four fronts and Reiten reports the standard in training has risen following the arrival of Melanie Leupolz, Niamh Charles and Jessie Fleming.

‘We have been training for a short while and you can already see the level and the quality – it is ridiculous,’ Reiten admitted. ‘I love it because we need to push each other.

‘We know that what we did last season isn’t going to be good enough this season so we need to develop, we need to get better every day and with the squad that we have right now, anything is possible.’

Reiten joins team-mates Bethany England and Erin Cuthbert in signing new contracts during this close season.
