JT linked with Cherries job

According to The Mirror, John Terry is one of the managerial options which Bournemouth are considering following the departure of Eddie Howe.

Howe’s eight-year spell in charge of the Cherries came to an end last weekend when he left the club after their relegation to the Championship and the Cherries reportedly want to have a new manager in place before the start of pre-season training later this month.

‘The Cherries have Eddie Howe’s former assistant, Jason Tindall, as the leading candidate but there is still interest in Chelsea legend Terry who is currently Dean Smith’s no.2 at Aston Villa,’ states the report.

‘No approach has yet been made to Villa but Terry, who has been working with Smith since October 2018, helped to keep the club in the Premier League this season.

‘He is also known to be keen to make the step into management in his own right.

‘With the players due back on August 17, Bournemouth have a short time frame within which to make an appointment and, as a result, are set to decide soon on Howe’s successor.’

Eto’o backs Drogba’s bid

Didier Drogba has reportedly received public backing from another former Chelsea striker, Samuel Eto’o, in his campaign to become the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF).

According to kickoff.com, the Cameroonian voiced his support for Drogba in a report by French-language website AfriqueSports.

‘First let me remind you that all countries would like to have a Didier Drogba at home, so the Ivorians may not know that they have a great chance to have it,’ said the four-time African Footballer of the Year.

‘If I was a member of the Ivorian football federation, I would not even hesitate to opt for Didier. Ivorian football needs change, progression, big sponsors, investors and evolution.

‘Modernisation and creation of new infrastructures; maintenance, management of infrastructure and development of sports medicine. This will be able to end the lack of transfers, the corruption, the boycotts, the insufficient salary of the players, coaches and referees.

‘For that, I'm sure Didier is capable of it! Because above all, he has the love of his country. So as not to regret later, they would do better to vote Didier.’

The election of the new FIF president takes place on 5 September.

Man Utd eyeing move for Telles

TalkSport reports Manchester United are pushing ahead with their interest in Porto left-back Alex Telles who has also reportedly been linked with Chelsea.

Coming off a strong season in Portugal in which he scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists, the 27-year-old has sparked interest in a summer transfer to the Premier League.

‘Porto are reportedly set to demand around £27m if they are to sell him,’ states the report.

‘Correio de Manha say United will ‘advance’ to sign Telles having enjoyed great success with their last signing from Portugal – Bruno Fernandes, who arrived from Sporting in January and has been a key player in the months since.

‘Chelsea are believed to similarly hold interest in Telles, having been chasing him since last year.

‘Reports in March claimed they were handed a huge boost in the race to sign the 27-year-old as he had rejected a contract offer from Porto.’
